European Sleeper continues to expand its network in 2026, offering low-emission night travel with practical, no-frills comfort
Dinner in Paris, breakfast in Berlin… The rail revival continues, but unlike the Orient Express, European Sleeper is resolutely fast and functional. Its origin story sets the tone: the Dutch-Belgian cooperative was founded five years ago, raising £8.5 million through share funding from some 7,000 investors.
The offer is straightforward: three tiers – a budget seat, couchette bunks and more comfortable sleeper cabins. Intentionally lean, it’s a model that can emit up to eight times less CO₂ than flying.
On 9 September, a Brussels-Milan route will debut – a 17.5-hour journey running three times a week. Onboard catering remains minimal, but the reward comes on arrival: flaky pastries and strong Italian espresso at Milano Porta Garibaldi.
